How Does Mindfulness Help?

What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is a state of being aware and noticing things around us! Mindfulness activities and exercises are becoming a huge topic of discussion! This is so exciting because if you’re like me, I have a hard time relaxing and just stopping to focus as I want to be busy all of the time. Over the past few years, I have started becoming more emotionally aware and with that, came mindfulness. Mindfulness is about being in the present moment and giving yourself permission to just sit and reflect for a few minutes. If you’re new to mindfulness and are unsure of what being mindful is all about, it’s okay! Mindfulness is a lot easier than you may think! All it takes to be mindful is to focus on the present moment and what you observe about that present moment. If the mindfulness activity is to think of your favorite place and notice with your senses, you would think about what you see, what you hear, what you can smell, what you can taste and what you can touch! Often times, in these mindfulness activities, our mind will wander away from what the exercise is. This is okay, this is a part of being mindful, we can notice the mind wandering and then bring it back to the exercise. This is done over and over again for the complete exercise. As we get better at mindfulness, we will observe each aspect of the activity and reflect on how the activity was for us!
